However, choosing low-quality products contributes to the generation of unnecessary waste, which is often not suitable for recycling.
- Health care – every day we breathe in fibres from the plastics we wear and cover ourselves with. Researchers at Newcastle University have found that each of us inhales around 5g of plastic per week (roughly the weight of a credit card)!
- Caring for the environment – did you know that every time you wash synthetic fabrics, microplastics are released, which later end up in rivers, seas and oceans? Fabrics made of plastics also become a problem when thrown away, because they take hundreds of years to decompose.
Synthetic fiber admixtures in natural materials
It is worth noting that small additions of synthetic fibers are not a bad thing – on the contrary, such a solution often extends the life of natural textiles and makes them easier to care for. For example, by adding some acrylic to the wool , we protect the material from shrinking and felting during washing, and cotton with a small addition of viscose or polyester becomes more elastic and less prone to creasing. However, if we reach for a wool or cotton product, it is important that the knitwear composition is dominated by natural material.

It takes 20,000 liters of water to produce 1 kilogram of cotton. More and more often, you can find recycled textiles, which are one way to protect the environment. Recycled cotton It is not yet widespread in Poland, but it is slowly entering the domestic market and is very popular among conscious consumers.
According to statistics up to 95% of clothing is recyclable ! So it's worth remembering not to throw a slightly stained cotton blouse into a mixed container, but into a container intended for textiles (e.g. one with the PCK logo). Some of the clothing from the container goes to be resold, some to those in need, and some to recycling. Yarn is recovered from old T-shirts and jeans, from which new knitwear is made.
