Choosing bedding for your bedroom requires making many decisions. What colour will be the best? What size should I choose? And finally: what material will provide me with the highest sleeping comfort? At moyha, we have been faithful to natural cotton from the very beginning, which allows the skin to breathe and is also suitable for allergy sufferers. The most popular types of cotton bedding include jersey and satin. To make it easier for you to make a decision, we have prepared a list of the most important features of both materials - check which fabric should be in your bedroom!
Cotton jersey bedding
Due to its unique properties, jersey fabric is very often chosen for the production of bedding. It is a material as soft as your favorite T-shirt, cozy and pleasantly enveloping. Cotton jersey is natural, smooth and made of thin fibers. Its name comes from the island of Jersey, which belongs to the dependent territories of Great Britain. Initially, this material was used to sew work clothes and underwear for fishermen, and it gained popularity thanks to Coco Chanel, who designed jersey coats and dresses. Jersey can be cotton, silk, viscose, wool, and even polyester. Cotton fibers are best for the production of jersey bedding .
What makes jersey bedding unique?
-
Softness – delicate, pleasant to the touch material provides the skin with the highest comfort, which translates into the quality of sleep. Natural cotton can be easily chosen by allergy sufferers.
-
Durability – the jersey fabric is very densely weaved, making the bedding resistant to repeated washing and many years of use.
-
Properties of cotton – cotton jersey bedding is breathable, airy and universal, so it is suitable for all year round: both for cool and warm nights.
-
Timeless look – smooth, non-shiny jersey bedding matches any bedroom design. This is especially true for single-colour models in classic white or grey, white or anthracite melange.
-
Easy care – to enjoy beautiful jersey bedding for years, just remember to take proper care: wash at a maximum temperature of 40°C, use mild detergents, do not bleach, do not chlorinate and do not tumble dry. Cotton jersey bedding does not require ironing.
Cotton satin bedding
Cotton satin combines the spectacular appearance of satin with the naturalness of cotton. Many people wrongly believe that it is slippery, cold and artificial. In reality, it is a product made of cotton, which is distinguished by its smoothness and softness. However, there are many types of satin, and its properties depend on the material used - if satin bedding makes you think of a feeling of unpleasant cold, you have most likely dealt with polyester satin. All satin materials are connected by a unique satin weave technique , which involves weaving the material by running the thread four times up and once down. The fabric is created in a multi-stage production process: first, the cotton is dyed and then subjected to the mercerization process (refining), thanks to which it gains smoothness and a characteristic shine.
What is special about cotton satin bedding ?
-
Durability – the material is characterized by high durability, which results from the natural composition and weave technique. Cotton satin is therefore resistant to abrasion and stretching and does not lose its properties even after many washes.
-
Skin-friendly – satin cotton has all the features of natural cotton, so it is skin-friendly, breathable and suitable for allergy sufferers.
-
Pleasant to the touch - a special weave makes this bedding exceptionally smooth, pleasant to the touch and pleasantly cool (but not cold). A cotton satin bedding set is a great choice for summer, when our skin needs a little cooling on hot August nights.
-
Impressive appearance – the material has a characteristic shine, which is why it works great, for example, in luxurious, glamour-style arrangements.
-
Easy care – cotton satin bedding can be washed at 40-60° (pay attention to the manufacturer's recommendations), remembering not to spin or bleach it. Such bedding does not require ironing.
Which bedding should I choose?
Cotton satin or jersey fabric? That's the question! Both materials are pleasant to the skin, durable, suitable for allergy sufferers and easy to care for - provided, of course, that they are made of natural cotton. So the choice depends solely on your preferences. If you are looking for smooth, universal and timeless bedding that will work well in both summer and winter, opt for the unique cotton jersey. However, if you want an elegant shine and a pleasant feeling of coolness on the skin during hot nights, we recommend cotton satin.
Have a good night!
